Primary Purpose:
Provide instructional support services. Assist the teacher in instruction, preparation, and management of classroom activities. Work under direct supervision of the teacher.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Associate’s degree or 48 hours college-level hours including the core curriculum
OR Region 20 Educational Aide Certificate
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to use personal computer and software__preferred
Effective communication and organizational skills
Perform functions from written and oral instructions
Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Ability to work well with children
Experience:
Some experience working with children
Additional Information:
This position is funded with external funds (State Allotment and/or Federal). Continuation of this position is contingent upon continued receipt of the external funding. All duties/responsibilities comply with the respective fund source activities and requirements.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Learner-Centered Curriculum
- Demonstrate knowledge in reading to appropriately meet the learning needs of the students.
- Demonstrate knowledge in writing to appropriately meet the learning needs of the students.
- Demonstrate knowledge in math to appropriately meet the learning needs of the students.
- Provide assistance in the services for staff development
- and instructional strategies for the successful education for students.
Learner-Centered Instruction
- Assist in keeping students on task and actively engaged in learning by supporting the classroom teacher.
- Reinforce student learning by supporting the classroom teacher.
- Provide specific, constructive feedback to the students.
- Facilitate student learning by efficiently organizing instructional materials and orienting students to the material.
- Vary activities appropriately and maintain appropriate pacing and sequencing of instruction as per recommendation and guidance of the classroom teacher.
- Use appropriate questioning and inquiry techniques to challenge students.
- Make appropriate use of available computer-assisted instruction as a part of the instructional process.
- Facilitate student learning in the area of personal needs as required, i.e. hygiene, self-help.
Learner-Centered Communication
- Promote a positive caring climate.
- Use appropriate and accurate verbal and non-verbal communication with students.
- Encourage and support students who are reluctant or having difficulty with the assigned task.
- Work collaboratively and constructively with the teacher for overall improvement of
- student performance.
- Be supportive of and courteous with students and all faculty and staff.
School/Organizational Improvement
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Collaborate in the development and articulation of a common vision for the district.
Personnel Management
- Comply with applicable personnel policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Assist campus staff as needed.
Management of Student Discipline, Time, and Materials
- Demonstrate appropriate student management for instruction.
- Review and be knowledgeable of the UCISD Student Code of Conduct.
- Follow the established classroom discipline procedures to support the classroom teacher.
- Reinforce the desired behavior when appropriate.
- Effectively manage the time and materials.
- Report to work on time and absent only with good cause.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Attend professional growth activities to enhance the campus educational program.
- Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Student Performance
- Promote parent involvement in the area of academic progress and assessment performance to ensure the academic success of the students.
