Primary Purpose:
Provides coaching and support to classroom teachers to ensure the continuous development of instructional skills among assigned teachers. Evaluate the performance of assigned classroom teachers.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to write speeches and articles using original and innovative techniques or style.
- Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentation on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District SIOP, ESL/Bilingual Certificate, ELPS Training a plus
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to assist District Content Specialist to organize and coordinate implementation of district-wide program
- Expertise in data analysis to improve student achievement
- Knowledge of curriculum and standards-based instruction, current instructional and assessment research, instructional technology, computer instructional software, and current trends and issues in core content area
- Knowledge of core content area strategies and materials
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with administrators and teachers
- Experience planning and implementing staff development
- In-depth knowledge of state and national content standards
- In-depth knowledge of state, federal, local assessments including college/career assessments
- Bilingual Preferred
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Staff Development
- Work collaboratively with assigned classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher’s individual professional development and student learning.
- Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of teacher instructional skills through coaching and collaborative problem solving.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and coaching to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classroom.
- Evaluate teacher effectiveness in accordance with established district programs.
- Plan and provide appropriate staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff.
Instructional and Program Management
- Work with teachers to analyze and interpret student data and use findings to develop and apply instructional strategies.
- Develop curricular or behavioral support materials as needed.
- Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in area assigned.
Other
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
