Job Title: Substitute Nurse (RN, LVN)
Reports to: Head Nurse/Campus Nurse/Campus Principal
Dept/School: Assigned Campuses on as needed basis
Primary Purpose:
Implement district school health programs and provide direct services to meet the needs of the students and staff under the clinical supervision of the district nurse (RN) and campus nurse; administrative supervision under the campus principal. \
Qualifications:
Valid Texas certification
Acceptable background check and fingerprinting results
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge/Certification of basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills.
Ability to use personal computer and software
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
Experience:
Two years’ experience in a health-related position; student contact in an educational setting preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Nursing Services
- Provide direct care utilizing school health protocols and care plans established by the district nurse (RN).
- Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.
- Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure). Communicate findings to required district staff and or parents.
- Contribute to and implement the individualized student health care plans as established by the district nurse (RN).
- Communicate with parents regarding individual students.
- Collaborate with other professionals regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
- Contact local emergency services according to established district health services protocols.
Clerical
- Maintain accurate student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, reportable accidents, communicable disease data & referrals, and individual student treatment records.
- Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required, including accurate, updated health records on all students.
Compliance
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rules, State Board of Education rules and Board policy in health services areas.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality.
Safety
- Use universal precautions procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care.
- Keep health clinic clean and sanitary

Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermo scan, basic clinic equipment, personal computer, fax and copier.
