Primary Purpose:

The role of the Academic Dean is to assist the principal in interacting effectively with each component of the educational setting, to create an educational environment that is conducive to learning, which provides planned learning opportunities for teachers and students.  The Academic Dean assists in planning and implementing the total instructional program for his/her assigned school.  Coordinate the program for students in at-risk situations.  Collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to provide educational and career opportunities for students in at-risk situations.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas Teaching Certificate

Supervisory and Leadership Experience

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

          Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

          Ability to organize and coordinate campus program

          Ability to interpret data

 

Experience:

Five years teaching experience or a combination of teaching and other professional experience in a public education environment.  (Years on a permit will not count as years of experience as a fully certified classroom teacher.)

This position is funded with external funds (State Allotment and/or Federal). Continuation of this position is contingent upon continued receipt of the external funding. All duties/responsibilities comply with the respective fund source activities and requirements.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Systematically and continuously monitors instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes, and uses these findings for corrective action and improvement, as well as for recognition of success.
  2. Ensures that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
  3. Effectively administers and integrates all special programs with the regular program.
  4. Provides instructional resources and materials to support the teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  5. Fosters collegiality and team building among staff, encouraging their active involvement in decision-making.
  6. Implement procedures to identify and monitor at-risk students at grade levels campus wide, including review of student data.
  7. Provides students in at-risk situations with alternative course work through curriculum modifications and acceleration.
  8. Determines and builds a common vision with staff for school improvements, directs planning activities, and implements programs collaboratively with staff to ensure attainment of school’s mission.
  9. Identifies, analyzes, and applies research findings (e.g., effective school research correlates) to facilitate school improvement.
  10. Leads a collaborative process to develop campus performance objectives to include the Academic Excellence Indicators involving staff, parents, and community members.
  11. Compiles with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations, in pursing the mission of the school.
  12. Works with data processing staff to assure accurate PEIMS reporting for dropouts and to assure an adequate tracing of at-risk students.
  13. Disseminates ideas and information to other professionals, pursues professional development activities, and provides leadership for addressing the challenges facing the profession.
  14. Demonstrates awareness of school community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs.
  15. Interprets test and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students.
  16. Comply with policies established by deferral and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area.
  17. Report to work on time and absent with a good cause.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.
